I finished my grassland bird survey today by returning to the nine
points on one of my routes that I first visited on May 27th. Since then,
there has been much evidence of haying, probably in the past few days and
less evidence of birds. On the 27th, most of The hayfields on this route
had not yet been cut. Today, seven out of nine had been completely or
partially cut. On the 27th, I recorded 13 Bobolinks and 5 Savannah
Sparrows. Today there were 6 and 3 respectively.
