This upcoming event sponsored by Hanover's Howe Library may be of interest.
Dr.
Don Perovich, of the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory
(CRREL) in Hanover, will speak on Arctic exploration, sea ice, and
ongoing environmental changes in the Arctic at 7 p.m. on Thursday,
November 1 at Howe Library.
Dr.
Perovich is a Research Geophysicist at CRREL and an Adjunct Professor
of Engineering at the Thayer
School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. His primary research
focuses on understanding the Arctic and its role in global climate
change; in particular, how radiation from the sun interacts with snow
and sea ice – an interaction that impacts not only the Arctic, but
affects global climate change as well. Dr. Perovich has participated in
dozens of Arctic expeditions studying the properties and processes of
the Arctic sea ice cover.
This event is part of Everyone is Reading 2012, a one book, one community series focused on the book Moby-Duck by Donovan Hohn. Copies of Moby-Duck are
available for checkout at Howe Library by any Upper Valley resident,
with or without a Howe Library card. Participants do not have to read
the book prior to attending this program.
