After nearly 6 weeks of a pretty much complete dearth of birds at our feeders, and in the yard, this noon brought a quick rush of migrants. Black- throated blue, yellow- rumped, and probable Nashville warblers, hermit thrush feeding on berries, titmice and chickadees. Since Irene, our woods and yard shrubs have been silent except for an occasional jay. I think all our resident chickadees have disappeared, and are being replaced by these new arrivals.. Never in our 25+ years at our home has our property been so devoid of birds. Donna Nelson New Boston Road, Thetford
