About 10:00 a.m. Wednesday between 325 and 350 redpolls were observed at the feeders and in nearby trees surrounding the house. I left to do errands and upon returning about 12:30 p.m., 175-to-200 redpolls were still in the area with another 70 +/- observed down the hill near my neighbor's feeders. By 3:00 p.m. the numbers had dropped to around 100. By 4:30 p.m. there were perhaps two dozen remaining, There were four goldfinches seen during this time period. The steady, light snow, cloudy conditions and skittery nature of redpolls made identifying hoaries nigh impossible.
