Among 32 bird species found around Norwich today, some of special
interest from this morning at Pompy were 6 Hooded Mergansers, a
Cooper's Hawk, a Greater Yellowlegs seen flying by while giving
characteristic calls, and an Eastern Phoebe. Along Campbell Flats Road
later this morning, other birds of interest included a Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker, 2 Yellow-shafted Flickers, a Common Yellowthroat, a
singing Swamp Sparrow, an Indigo Bunting, and a House Sparrow.

Today's sighting provided the latest fall date on which I have found
an Indigo Bunting within Norwich; my previous late fall date for that
species in the Town of Norwich was on September 26, 1998. For the
entire county (Windsor County, VT), my latest fall sighting for an
Indigo Bunting was in the Town of Windsor on October 5, 2003.

Today's House Sparrow along Campbell Flats Road near the intersection
with Patterson Road was unusual because at least in recent years the
species has apparently not been found in that locality.
