UV Birders: We're all enjoying the waves of migrating birds as they arrive, and also the enthusiastic posts of who has seen what. To further our enjoyment and to make the list more useful, I'd like to make a couple of suggestions. 1. Please remember to include a very brief description of the location where you saw the birds. At a minimum, tell us what town the sighting was in, and maybe a brief description of the type of habitat: backyard, field, woods, stream, river, ridge top, etc. If the sighting is very unusual, you may be contacted by other birders for a more precise description or directions. Even if you post regularly, it is still useful to include a location with every post, as we may not all remember where your "usual" birding haunts are. 2. Use a new subject description for your e-mail that states briefly what you are reporting. Don't "re-use" the subject line from a previous poster to introduce a new report, as this is just confusing (otherwise your sighting of an Eastern Bluebird is posted as a sighting of a Mallard, for example, or your report of ridge top sightings from Moose Mt is confused with the sightings along the Connecticut River reported by someone else). Thanks! And as always, consider reporting your observations to the Vermont eBird. You can then e-mail yourself your report, and forward it on to a posting at UV-Birders. This helps document bird sightings in Vermont (and other states) in a way that is scientifically useful. Go to: http://ebird.org/content/vt/ It's pretty simple and straightforward to set up an account, sign in, and use it. It has maps, and you can set up a list of "favorite" locations where you do your birding. Then you just enter the birds you've seen using a checklist.
