I inherited an LLC which I think got that title with a renovation in 1987, so the ideas behind the change were not current. I was discouraged by my supervisor from trying to make any more changes more recently, though. I think the idea was that language labs are boring 50s facilities for listening to tapes while a language learning center is bright and fun and has an array of technological options for learning. I don't like the name for our facility for a couple of reasons. Our "LLC" has facilities in a couple of different buildings, so it is not a single center. LLC can be misleading since it implies that we offer lots of stand-alone programs (come to us to learn a language!), while our primary mission is in fact supporting the language classes and faculty.
