Cynthia- I have been seeing a few flocks of ww crossbills just showing up on our high elevation study plots on Stratton Mountain in the last 2 weeks. Pine siskins are also arriving. There is a moderate cone crop of fir and some spruce that will be mature soon so they have something to eat. Siskins have been feeding on weed seeds on the ski slopes. I would suggest putting your bird sightings into Vermont eBird to help track these interesting irruptions of crossbills. http://ebird.org/content/vt/ Kent -- Kent McFarland Vermont Center for Ecostudies PO Box 420 • Norwich, VT 05055 802.649.1431 http://www.vtecostudies.org/ **************************************************************** To post messages, send e-mail to: [log in to unmask] Set your e-mail application to PLAIN TEXT ONLY to post messages.
