The Woodcocks have returned to Storrs Hill , with 2 actively displaying in a scrubby field across from our house. I went over with my flashlight and was able to work my way into a position so one bird landed within 15 ft. of me on two occasions. I was so close I could hear a short cooing noise right before it let out with it's nasal beent call, maybe a short inhale before that explosive exhale. A Bluebird has been sighted at the Townsend's sugarhouse, so I must get my new bluebird houses out this weekend.
