I know that there have been a number of discussions over the years about testing and authoring software but I didn't find anything in the archives that seemed to match the need for recording responses. ==============Question=================== I wanted to ask you a question about authoring software for foreign languages. We are working on a project to construct tests that we could use in our language lab to assess aural and oral proficiency in our first-semester students. Do you know of any authoring software packages on the market that would allow us to create a test bank of recorded questions that we could then use for testing (questions pulled at random for each student tested). In one section, the students would select a response shown on-screen; in another section they would record their responses on a zip disk. I've been searching on the internet, but so far I haven't found a package that would allow us to record the questions. If you have any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated. ============End Question================== Seems to me just about any authoring tool such as authorware or toolbook can do the random test bank part and can work with audio/video as well as text. What I don't know is the part about students being able to record to a zip disk from there. If there are some authoring tools that are more language friendly than others, I'd also like to know about them. If you have suggestions on tools that will do this or answers to whether or not the aforementioned ones will allow student recording, I would appreciate hearing from you.
