There is unprecedented attention on the landscape of emerging infectious diseases, having witnessed the disaster of the COVID-19 pandemic. This attention cuts across all stakeholder groups: the public, the
medical community, public health, the media, and politicians to name a few. There will be some positive changes as a result, but there is still much to learn. Every clinician must remain vigilant for what’s new and why. In this discussion, Dr. Elizabeth Talbot
will provide an overview of what’s coming for our species next and how to mitigate.
Dr. Talbot is an infectious diseases and tropical medicine trained internist, who has extensive experience in internal and domestic infectious disease control through outbreak investigation, clinical projects,
research, and consultation. She trained at Duke University and with the Epidemic Intelligence Service. She’s also served in Boswana with the CDC and the World Health Organization in Geneva before coming to Dartmouth where she is a Professor of Medicine in
the Section of Infectious Diseases and International Health at the Geisel School of Medicine. Moreover, since 2003 Dr. Talbot has been New Hampshire’s Deputy State Epidemiologist, where she is engaged in leadership for outbreak investigation and control. Her
research focuses on the ancient and current pandemic of Tuberculosis.
