JOB DESCRIPTION

This Research Coordinator position at Children's National Hospital is ideally suited for recent college graduates who want a gap period before attending medical school. The position will report to Randall Burd, MD, PhD, Chief of the Division of Trauma and Burn Surgery. Dr. Burd has funding from the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation that is focused on developing new approaches for improving the early care of injured children. The research coordinator will assist with the Division's research projects. 

The work involves review of clinical videos of trauma resuscitations, data input and analysis based on these reviews, drafting manuscripts and reports, organizing research related meetings and materials, and presenting research findings internally and sometimes externally. This is only a partial list of activities. The position is very mature and established. Our most recent research coordinators have been Dartmouth, Princeton, Georgetown, and William and Mary graduates. Those who have held this position have enjoyed it and would have stayed longer if not for the fact that all went or are going to medical school. Our research team internally numbers about 12 (you will not be alone in an office!) and extramurally into a few dozen people. You will learn lots and lots about the early management of injured kids. This position is a full-time paid position with an expected duration of two years. If you are planning only one gap year, please do not apply. This position is not intended as a backup plan for those now applying to medical school but as a gap job. This position provides a unique exposure to clinical research for those looking for a gap experience. We are particularly interested in an individual who has at least some experience with basic programming, particularly Python and similar languages. This position is for two years.
