On October 26, 1999.....
"During a conference for the American Academy of Pediatrics in Boston, activists from Intersex Society of North America and Transexual Menace began the first ever protest of its kind.
The group held signs with messages like "Hermaphrodites With Attitude" written on them and marked the first official demonstration by intersex people in North America.
The event was also the inspiration for Intersex Awareness Day, celebrated on October 26 every year.
Although the protest was in 1996, the national commemoration of Intersex Awareness Day wasn't seriously discussed until 2003 and officially enacted the following year—making this year its 12th anniversary. "

Current Event:
Inside Egypt's LGBT Crackdown: One Band's Story
"During the show, fans were photographed waving a rainbow flag – the universal symbol of gay pride – in solidarity with the group. Singer Hamed Sinno is openly gay, and the band has long been outspoken about LGBTQ issues in their music and public statements. In the days afterwards, the images circulated on social media and Egyptian TV commentators and newspapers turned it into a public scandal. The local musicians' syndicate banned Mashrou' Leila from playing in the country, and Egyptian authorities launched what activists and human rights observers are now saying is the worst-ever crackdown on the country's gay community, arresting dozens on "debauchery" charges."
