Dear Dartmouth Community,
Following activism and student involvement pushing for change regarding
race and inclusivity, Dartmouth launched its Inclusive Excellence program to
address issues of race and inclusivity. The goal was to provide recommendations with clear metrics and measures for accountability to an executive committee tasked
with implementing them.
This past week, the executive committe recieved the recommendations. Some of the major recommendations are as follows:
Student Working Group
- Required course on diversity for all undergraduate students
- Establish an external review committee to track progress of inclusive exellence initiative
- Publish an annual diversity and inclusion report/plan
Faculty Working group
- Required diversity action plans by each department
- Increased faculty diversity recruitment fund
- Faculty training on
disrupting implicit bias in the classroom
Staff Working group
- Introduce cultural sensitivity training
- Provide more support and increased funding for Employee Resource Networks (ERNs)
- Institute "exit" and
"stay" interviews to analyze why people are leaving
At this point, nothing is set in stone and we need your input and feedback to determine the best way of addressing these recommendations.
Join us on Monday at 6:00pm in Rocky 002 to discuss Inclusive Excellence or email into diversity.dartmouth.edu to voice your opinion.
Sincerely,
The NAACP Executive Board
