Dr. Ira Helfand received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 on behalf of two non-governmental organizations aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of nuclear weapons.

Student Dinner with Ira Helfand, MD, Physicians for Social Responsibility Monday, April 4, 2016 5:30-6:30 pm Morrison Commons, Rockefeller Center   The Rockefeller Center is hosting this student dinner with Dr. Ira Helfand following his public lecture, "The Growing Danger of Nuclear War and What We Can Do About It," at 4:00 pm in Haldeman 041, hosted by the Ethics Institute.   Dr. Ira Helfand graduated from Harvard College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital and the Montefiore Hospital Medical Center. Before practicing at the Family Care Medical Center (Springfield, MA), Dr. Helfand worked in the ER at Mercy Hospital and for many years at Cooley Dickinson Hospital where he was Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and President of the Medical Staff.
