A short explanation about ballroom:

"The ballroom scene in the United States is an underground LGBTQ subculture in which participants compete for social class and recognition among their peers. Organized into informal kinship networks, referred to as "houses," and extravagant competitions, known as "balls," the ballroom scene provides a framework for social support, creative expression, and competition among Queer People of Color.
