Thursday, April 30th, 6:30pm: Sustainability Solutions Café Film Screening: “Tierralismo” (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free and Open to the Public)
Tierralismo is an America Media Initiatives film about one of Cuba's most successful farms, the Organoponico Vivero Alamar (Alamar Organic Cooperative). Post-film discussion with Organoponico Projects Coordinator Isis Salcines, AMI director Alexandra Halkin, and urban agriculture researcher Margarita Fernandez. Tierralismo is about the history and practices of one of Cuba’s most successful urban farms, the Organoponico Vivero Alamar (Alamar Organic Cooperative). Tierralismo introduces viewers to everyone from agronomists and senior management to workers who plant, plow, and propagate. What began as a necessity - farming without pesticides and chemical fertilizers - has become a source of pride to coop members. The film shows how they fertilize with compost and cow manure, raise their own insects for biological pest control, and have even created a fully biodegradable alternative to the plastic bag for use with seedlings. Loew Auditorium, 6:30pm Screening, 7:30 Q&A, reception follows. For more information on the tour, please visit http://americasmediainitiative.org/. Sponsored by the Porter Fund for Sustainability. http://dartmouth.edu/events/event?event=33776

Friday, May 1st, 7pm: Hop Film: “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night”

(Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, $5 for students)

A lonely and alluring female vampire stalks the most unsavory inhabitants of her ghost town Bad City. She meets a nice guy and an unusual love story begins to blossom...blood red. Writer/director Amirpour claims cinema's first Iranian Vampire Western, a pulpy, thoughtful pleasure and joyful mash-up of genre, image and music that cannot be believed. If Sergio Leone and David Lynch had an Iranian rock 'n' roll baby, and then Nosferatu came and babysat for them....well, you get the picture. D: Ana Lily Amirpour, Iran, subtitled, 2014, Runtime: 99 min.

Friday, May 1st, 10pm: Collis After Dark Film Screening: “What We Do in the Shadows” (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free for Dartmouth Students with ID)

A dryly amusing mockumentary from the Kiwis behind the similarly deadpan Eagle vs Shark and Flight of the Conchords, Shadows unfolds like the darkest movie that Christopher Guest never made (#DeliciousNecks)! Housemates Viago (kind killer), Deacon (ladies man) and Vladislav (brooding dork) are three vampires who are trying to get by in today’s world. From paying rent and doing housework to trying to get invited into nightclubs, they’re just like anyone else—except they’re immortal and must feast on human blood. When their 8000-year-old roommate Petyr turns 20-something human hipster Nick into a vampire, the guys must guide him through his newfound eternal life. In return, Nick teaches them a thing or two about modern society, fashion, technology and the internet. Mixing high-concept with lowbrow, this charming faux-verité spoof indulges in all manner of silly sight gags (Viago’s habit of biting the wrong artery is priceless) and tragicomic laments. Vladislav succinctly articulates their predicament as he sighs: “With humans, there is a tendency to die.” D: Jemaine Clement & Taika Waititi, NZ, 2014, Runtime: 86 min. http://dartmouth.edu/events/event?event=34584

Saturday, May 2nd, 7pm: Film Special: “Mr. Turner” (Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, $5 for students)

Master filmmaker Mike Leigh (Happy-Go-Lucky) has long been fascinated by J.M.W. Turner, the visionary, radical mid-19th century British painter, known for his eccentricity and off-putting intensity. Anchored by Timothy Spall's astonishing, Cannes prize-winning performance, the film brings tiny details of Victorian England to vivid life, combining domestic intimacy with an epic sweep. As Turner, Timothy Spall took the Best Actor Award at Cannes, capturing the breadth of the man's vulgar, obsessive tragicomic humanity. D: Mike Leigh, UK, 2014, Runtime: 149 min.

Sunday, May 3rd, 4pm: DFS Film: “Gimme the Loot”

(Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, $5 for students)

Bronx graffiti artists and best friends plan to tag the big plastic apple in Shea Stadium, a feat that will make them legends but costs $500. Gimmefollows the teens through a long, hot day of improvised criminality, making its points with a lighthearted, street-smart vernacular. Treating the pair as self-aware individuals who are—like teenagers everywhere—both smart and dumb, this loose and rambunctious tale is a celebration of outlaw creativity and entrepreneurial gumption.D: Adam Leon, US, 2013, Runtime: 81 min.

Sunday, May 3rd, 7pm: Film Special: “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”

(Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center, Free Advance Screening)

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, Me and Earl is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg, a high-school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life. He even describes his constant companion Earl, with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a 'co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom insists he spend time with Rachel—a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer—he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be. D: Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, US, 2015, Runtime: 104 min.
