"'Tis time, my friend, 'tis time!
For rest the heart is aching;
Days follow days in flight, and every day is taking
Fragments of being, while together you and I
Make plans to live. Look, all is dust, and we shall die."

~Alexander Pushkin

The RUSSIAN CLUB invites one and all to its start-of-term picnic, this Friday from 3 to 5pm. Russian Club is a laid-back, low-commitment way to learn about and discuss everything Russian, Soviet, Eastern European, and Central Asian.

Are you a fan of politics? Russia is one of the key actors in world affairs, counterbalancing the Western powers on the UN security council, holding the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in existence, and offers asylum for Western political dissidents while cracking down vehemently upon its own.

History buff? The 20th-century could arguably be known as the Soviet Era, seeing Russia transform from a land of despotism and stratification, to the first Communist state in existence.

Culture junkie? Russian, Slavic, and Soviet animators are some of the most celebrated in the field, ranging from the stop-motion insect theatre of Ladislas Starevich to the award-winning Hedgehog in the Fog, from the Soviet adaptation of Winnie-the-Pooh to the modern Russian adaptation of Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea.

No language skills are necessary -- everybody's invited for food and tea!

This Friday, from 3 to 5pm
