To the Dartmouth Community,

After collecting feedback from members of every sorority, sorority recruitment officers, sorority presidents, the GLOS office, and unaffiliated students, the Panhellenic Executive Council is proud to announce changes to Recruitment in the following four categories:

- Increasing Transparency and Accountability

- Reducing Cost

- Leveling the Playing Field between Potential New Members

- Making Recruitment more Genuine

Recruiting and welcoming new members is one of the most important things we as sororities do. However, we have long relied on a heavily flawed system. Recruitment often deteriorates into superficiality, and a Potential New Member’s (PNM’s) outcome is based upon what she looks like, what she was wearing, her ability to small-talk, or her pre-existing connections.

We, the Panhellenic Sororities, are holding ourselves accountable to PNMs, to Dartmouth, and to ourselves. We strive to provide spaces that are safe and welcoming for women of color, non-gender-conforming individuals, and women who deviate from the “sorority ideal” in general. We want to make it known to PNMs that sororities and sorority women stand for so much more than our interactions with fraternities and the glorification of drinking. We also recognize that Greek life is exorbitantly expensive, and one of our primary goals is to cut costs in order to make more money available for scholarships.

While we know there are still flaws in the system, in making these changes to Recruitment, we are taking steps towards crafting a system that more closely represents and emphasizes our values. Please see attached document for further details regarding these changes.

Sincerely,
