London, 1610: With the master of the house away, a crooked butler sets up with a phony alchemist and a cunning femme fatale to rob the neighborhood blind. This frantically paced farce will feature sword fights, quick changes, puppets, and dirty jokes. Ben Jonson was a poet, a playwright, a bricklayer, a skeptic, a convicted murderer, and a suspected revolutionary, as well as a friend and rival to William Shakespeare. His plays tend to feature urban settings, lower class protagonists, and morally ambiguous endings. If you like Shakespeare, but always wished he'd write plays about urban riff raff where the bad guys win, then you need to check out The Alchemist.
