Faith, spirituality and religious practice all play a major role in compassionate patient care & in the responses of affected individuals and their families to illness, but is often not discussed  among pre-health, medical students and others.  Thanks to 2 members of the Nathan Smith Society Executive Committee, Kiah Williams 15 and Shay Vellanki 16, working with Geisel MD/PhD student Ana-Maria Dumitru, there is a wonderful opportunity to do this


Faith & Spirituality in Medicine Dinner/Discussion

This event will bring together a broad collection of different perspectives on a core issue of human identity and meaning. A panel of speakers consisting of practicing physicians, ethicists, patients, and chaplains from the DHMC Chaplaincy office will share briefly about their experiences having conversations about faith and spirituality in the context of medical care and medical practice. Dinner will be served and small group reflection and discussion time will ensue. Students from across the different campuses will have a chance to interact and share about the core values that shape their identity.  This event is open to all students, not just NSS members.  Please invite your friends to attend and share this message with other student groups whose membership might be interested.


Panel participants include Dr. Paul Sansone, Dr. Manish Mishra, Dr. William Nelson; patients from the DHMC and a DHMC chaplain, Linda Piotrowski and table reflection facilitators include  Rev Nancy Vogele (Tucker), a nun from Boston (aunt of Emily Dollar 14, student director at Tucker), Rabbi Edward Boraz and Geisel medical students & faculty.
