This week's Green Fish concert features a dynamic performance by clarinetist Arthur Campbell. The set includes pieces for solo clarinet and live and fixed electronics composed by Maurice Wright, Bejamin Broening, Kui Dong, and Elizabeth Hoffman. Also performing are the students from Composition Seminar, collaborating for a set of free improvisation.

About Arthur Campbell: 2013 International Classical Music Award Nominee, clarinetist Arthur Campbell enjoys a celebrated solo performance and recording career, which has taken him throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Campbell's performances have been broadcast around the world and his CD's of traditional repertoire with the German audiophile label Audite, have won critic's choice awards in Belgium, France, and Spain, as well as Record of the Month from Stereo Magazine, and CD of the Month from Germany's FonoForum.

Campbell's commitment to new music is sincere and ongoing. His commissions, premieres, and recordings demonstrate his virtuosic capacity for the gamut of musical styles and his dedication to building the repertoire. Commenting on his Merkin Hall premieres of new clarinet concertos by Lifchitz and Green, The New York Times described Campbell as "the eloquent soloist", and continues, "his clarinet sang, purred and growled ornate soliloquies during the fitful work". About his world premiere recording of Shulamit Ran's Three Scenes for Clarinet, The Clarinet journal writes: "The performance of this work is exceptional.

Campbell's tone, phrasing and dynamic contrast really portray the essence of this piece, a work which will most likely become a standard in the clarinet repertoire." Also in demand as a master teacher, Dr. Campbell has taught and performed at conservatories and festivals in France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Hungary, Turkey, Estonia, Lithuania, China, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. Campbell received the Doctor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University, where he studied with renowned clarinetist and pedagogue Robert Marcellus. He is a Professor of Music at Grand Valley State University in Michigan where he has built a thriving studio of clarinet students.
