The *Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science *(*DUJS*) is currently
seeking talented undergraduate students for its *2013-2014 Executive Board*.
Currently in its 15th year of publication, DUJS aims to increase scientific
awareness within the Dartmouth community by providing an interdisciplinary
forum for sharing undergraduate research and enriching scientific
knowledge. DUJS now accepts submission from fellow Ivy League institutions
and is distributed to major research universities throughout the United
States. Many past members of our executive board have gone off to pursue
their love of science at top graduate programs and medical schools.

To apply, please fill out the Google Survey provided below. Please note
that responses cannot be saved in the application, so answers should be
drafted in a word document and copy/pasted when ready. The deadline for
submitting is *Today, February 21 at 11:59 PM.*

Applicants may apply for a *maximum of 3 positions*.  Candidates will be
invited to an informal interview (8-10 minutes) from *Friday to Sunday,
February 22-24. *Students who are currently off-campus will be contacted
via phone or Skype. The incoming *DUJS* Executive Board will be announced
formally during its weekly meeting on *Monday, February 25 at 9:00 PM in
Carson L01*.

*President (1): *Oversees the following positions: Essay Contests,
Publicity, Communications, Publisher, and Programming. Responsible for
internal and external operations of the journal.

*Editor-in-Chief (1):*

Oversees the following positions: Managing Editors, Layout & Design, and
Web Development. In charge of the overall content of the journal. Will edit
every article, online or print, before publication (the last line of
editing). Also responsible for choosing the articles published in the print
journal and the topics for weekly online news articles In addition, the EIC
is responsible for organizing the "pastedown" and inputting edits into
InDesign.

*Director of Essay Contests (1):*

Responsible for communicating with prospective applicants via email
interested in submitting articles for consideration in our essay contests.
The spring contest will be for college students, and the fall contest will
be for high school students. After each contest deadline, responsible for
coordinating the editing team to review submissions and select a winner.

*Managing Editor, Style (2):*

Responsible for editing articles in print and online for style and clarity.
The "traditional managing editor" job. Also encouraged are in-person
editing sessions to work face-to-face with authors to help mentor and
improve their writing.

*Managing Editor, Content (2):*

Responsible for reviewing articles for scientific accuracy and working with
faculty on our Advisory Board, who will also referee articles published in
the print journal. Also responsible for ensuring references are scholarly
sources and that they are formatted correctly if the author does not do so.

*Layout and Design Team (2):*

LAYOUT: Responsible for layout of the termly print journal; DESIGN: image
acquisition; BOTH: any post-publication edits requested by authors.

*Web Development Team (2):*

Responsible for posting articles to the website, ensuring all links work
correctly, putting full-text and PDF versions of articles online, and
creating an Issuu version of the journal. Any post-publication edits will
also require a new Issuu version, so you'll work closely with the Layout
and Design Team

*Director of Publicity and Communications (1):*

COMMUNICATIONS: Responsible for taking minutes at each meeting, emailing
reminders before weekly meetings, and emailing out to individuals who sign
up to write online news articles with reminders on the information for the
event/topic for which the author signed up. PUBLICITY: Responsible for
updating our facebook and twitter pages with tweets from other science
organizations we're following, as well as announcements about new articles
posted on our website.

*Director of Publishing and Distribution (1):*

Responsible for contacting our publishing company, negotiating a timeline
with the EIC and Layout/Design Team, submitting the final copy of the
journal to the publisher. Also responsible for ensuring timely delivery of
the print copies and the proof, as well as communicating any requests to
the Layout & Design Team. Lastly, responsible for sending out mailings and
coordinating the campus distribution.

*Director of Programming (1):* Responsible for campus-wide termly release
events: contacting faculty, ordering refreshments/food, and emailing out to
campus.
