Hi Everyone!

DIWALI IS TODAY!!!

As you probably know, Diwali has been a massive event at Dartmouth in past
years. Last year, we decorated the Green with over three thousand candles,
and our cultural show was packed with attendees.

Celebrated on a new moon day that is one of the darkest days of year,
Diwali marks the triumph of good over evil. Hindus around the world light
lamps on this occasion to commemorate the victory of light over darkness.
According to Hindu legend, Diwali honors the stories of two avatars, or
incarnations, of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Our celebration at Dartmouth seeks to unite the traditional aspects of
Diwali while including the larger Dartmouth community. The event begins
with a traditional service in Rollins Chapel, moves to a more public
celebration on the Green with the lighting of lamps, and a Cultural Show at
Alumni Hall in the Hopkins Center, followed immediately by a home-cooked
dinner. This year, the Cultural Show will feature performances by community
members as well as by Raaz and Vandana, Dartmouth's South Asian Dance
Troupes. The official schedule is as follows:
