Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play

ANGELS IN AMERICA:
A GAY FANTASIA ON NATIONAL THEMES
PART ONE: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES

Winner of a 1993 Pulitzer Prize, part one of Tony Kushner’s two-play cycle offers an “astonishing theatrical landscape, intimate and epic” (New York Times) as it depicts resounding themes of death, religion, politics and history playing out in the lives of a diverse group of New Yorkers circa 1985. With Reagan in the White House and an as-yet unchecked AIDS epidemic ravishing the population, the play’s distinct, memorable characters and haunting special effects come to life under the hand of award-winning director Dunne (Hairspray/Rocky Horror Show).

Mature language and themes. Not recommended for people age 13 and under.

Written in 1970, shortly after Williams came out of rehab, the play-within-a-play format follows a once-famed but now derided playwright as he faces up to the final run-through of his latest play. As rehearsals continue, unexpected truths are revealed.
