GlobeMed at Dartmouth partners with the Kachin Women’s Association Thailand (KWAT), a grassroots organization located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. KWAT promotes the health, security, and empowerment of victims of ethnic conflict in Burma’s Kachin State. Civil war and political and economic deterioration in this state have caused thousands to flee their homes in Burma and cross the border into Thailand where they live without access to basic health care and education. GlobeMed at Dartmouth engages in fundraising campaigns throughout the year to fully fund a Reproductive Health Training Program that will provide essential resources and education for Kachin community members. GlobeMed at Dartmouth also hosts a year-long curriculum of discussions on major topics in global health will send a group of Dartmouth students to Thailand to work with KWAT this summer.
