Just to follow up, a couple recent Mistaken Merlin observations:
I was looking at a Chestnut-sided warbler singing loudly. Merlin repeatedly called it a Northern parula. I tried Merlin 3X and each time it came up with parula and nothing else. I have a parula nesting in my yard and I am confident it was picking up the parula off in the distance. However, it never once indicated CSWA even though it was loud and I’m looking at it 10-feet from my iPhone. This could be confusing to a beginner.
Trudeau Rd - There’s a resident raven that sounds similar to a Black-billed cuckoo. Merlin consistently identifies it as BBCU. But my birding party saw the raven giving the call. It was a raven that sounds like a BBCU.
Gotta be careful with the app but it is really helpful too.
