I counted 11 Blue-winged and 1 Green-winged Teal at the Hanover Center Reservoir this afternoon. A quick survey of eBird records from the previous 10 years shows a high count of 7 Blue-winged Teal on 9/6/19 at the Pompanoosic Flats. My previous high in Grafton County was 4 at Bedell Bridge in April 2019. All the birds are in female-like plumage, but happily they show the bright sky-blue upper wing patch when they fly. As for the Green-winged Teal, this is an early date as they begin to occur more regularly from mid-September. If you go, a scope is helpful picking out birds on the water. Np problem if they fly!
