This morning (May 17) four of us, maintaining social distance, birded the Taylor Floodplain Tract and Crossroad Farm in the Post Mills section of Thetford, VT, where we found 46 species while walking about a mile. Among species of special note were Wild Turkey, Killdeer, Solitary Sandpiper, 5 kinds of woodpeckers, Least Flycatchers, Northern Mockingbird, Veery, White-crowned Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Eastern Towhee, Baltimore Orioles, 3 Northern Waterthrushes, Indigo Bunting, and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. More details are on eBird at   https://ebird.org/vt/checklist/S69218515

For birders who might be unfamiliar with this site, this is a great location for bird finding. Tim and Janet Taylor, who manage the major farm, very much welcome individual birders or small parties, as previously reported on UVB. Habitats in the area are quite varied and include a lot of "edge" with a nice riparian section. Trails are wide and level without steep hills and away from motorists. And, for the moment at least, leaf growth is still limited, enhancing the possibility of nice views of the many birds.
