This is a reminder that at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in the Mayer Room of the Howe Library in Hanover, NH, Jim Kennedy is to speak on "The American Woodcock: Ecology and Management". This program, arranged by the Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon, is free and open to the public.

The American woodcock, a migratory bird, is famous for its remarkable springtime mating ritual on the “singing grounds”. Reports of declines among woodcock populations have spurred interest in providing good habitats for these birds. Jim will describe the woodcock’s unique anatomy and habits and where this specialized shorebird is found in our area. He will show the steps being taken to preserve and enhance the particular habitat of fields, brushy edges, and young forests which are critical to woodcock survival.
