Today at 9:30 am on Bonner Road in Meriden NH, I observed, much to my astonishment, a Turkey Vulture sitting in a large deciduous tree right next to the road. From a distance I thought the large dark object in the tree was a going to be a mammal. As the car approached, large wings opened, and I presumed it was a turkey. But instead it was a turkey vulture, all dark, with naked red head!!! 2 other people in the car concurred on the ID! Early migrant, or is it possible for them to winter over here ?
