This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, October 31st, 
2016.



A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen near the north end of Wallis Sands in Rye on 
October 22nd, has been seen regularly since then, and was last reported on 
the 31st.



A SNOWY OWL was reported from the Pease International Tradeport in 
Portsmouth on October 29th.



A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen in Orford on October 24th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at Odiorne Point State Park on October 30th.



2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS continue to be seen at Odiorne Point State Park in 
Rye and were last reported on October 30th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen at Goss Farm in Rye on October 26th.



A DICKCISSEL was seen at Locke Lake in Barnstead on October 27th and 28th.



3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen at Rye Harbor State Park on October 30th.



A PINE GROSBEAK was seen in Shelburne on October 26th.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in coastal Rye on October 30th.



3 ICELAND GULLS and a LAUGHING GULL were seen on the coast on October 29th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON continues to be seen in the southeast part of Great 
Bay in Greenland, and was last reported on October 30th.



2 HARLEQUIN DUCKS were seen along the coast in Hampton on October 29th.



A SNOW GOOSE was seen in Penacook on October 27th.



2 BRANT were seen in Swanzey and 2 were seen in Rye, all on October 30th.



4 NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen on Lake Massabesic in Manchester on October 
26th, and a male GADWALL was seen at the Suncook River Reservoir on the 
27th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER and 11 RUDDY DUCKS were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment plant on October 30th.



A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen on Whittemore Lake in Bennington, and 1 was seen 
on Turtle Pond in Concord, both on October 30th.



10 SURF SCOTERS were seen on Turkey Pond in Concord on October 27th, and 19 
were seen on Post Pond in Lyme on the 28th.



A HORNED GREBE, 3 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, and a mixed flock of at least 65 
SCOTERS were reported from Lake Sunapee during the past week.



A mixed flock of over 60 SCOTERS was reported from Potanipo Lake in 
Brookline during the past week.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was seen at Rye Harbor State Park on October 27th, 
28th, 29th, and 30th, and 2 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen in Seabrook on 
October 29th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen along the coast on October 30th.



12 EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from Keene on October 31st, and 1 was 
seen in New Durham on the 27th.



Sightings of SNOW BUNTINGS during the past week included 39 in Rye on 
October 27th, 31 in Hampton on the 27th, and 5 in Thornton on the 30th.



5 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in Henniker, and 1 was seen at Moore Fields off 
of Route 155A in Durham, all on October 30th.



A BOBOLINK was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on October 30th.



A flock of 56 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was seen in Henniker on October 30th.



Late-migrating WOOD WARBLERS reported during the past week, included: 
NORTHERN PARULA, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, YELLOW 
WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, and BLACKPOLL WARBLER.



2 FOX SPARROWS were seen in Concord on October 30th, and 1 was seen in Keene 
on the 31st.



There were reports of LINCOLN’S SPARROW, FIELD SPARROW, CHIPPING SPARROW, 
VESPER SPARROW, and “IPSWICH” SAVANNAH SPARROW during the past week.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Concord on October 31st.



RAPTOR migration is under way with migrating raptors being counted daily at 
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, with over 
13,000 raptors tallied (including 2 GOLDEN EAGLES, and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK) 
since September 1st, and at the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord, with 
over 6,600 raptors counted (including a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and 2 GOLDEN 
EAGLES) since September 1st. Be sure to visit these New Hampshire Audubon 
staffed observatories this fall season to help out with the counts!



There was an unconfirmed report of 2 IVORY GULLS, a POMARINE JAEGER, and a 
PARASITIC JAEGER from the coast on October 24th, and birders should be on 
the lookout for these. Please send any photos to New Hampshire Audubon.



There was an unconfirmed report of a BEWICK’S WREN in Salisbury on October 
29th.



A flock of 14 SANDHILL CRANES was seen in fields along West Fryeburg Road in 
Maine near the New Hampshire border on October 30th.



Over 100,000 BLACKBIRDS were seen going to roost at Great Bog in Portsmouth 
on the evening of October 29th.
