This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 15th, 
2016.



2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen in Newmarket on August 12th.



A SANDHILL CRANE has been seen somewhat regularly in a hayfield along Route 
127 in West Hopkinton since July 19th and was last reported on August 14th. 
2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen here on the 11th, and a SANDHILL CRANE, 
presumably the same as one of the aforementioned birds, has also been seen 
several times at the nearby Elm Brook Park.



2 FORSTER’S TERNS were seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton, and 5 ROSEATE TERNS 
and 120 COMMON TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor, all on August 13th.



Birders on a whale watch cruise out of Rye Harbor reported 16 CORY’S 
SHEARWATERS, 2 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, a GREAT SHEARWATER, 29 WILSON’S 
STORM-PETRELS, a BLACK TERN, and 3 LAUGHING GULLS on August 14th.



An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen south of Odiorne Point State Park in 
Rye in the marsh located on the west side of Route 1A, on August 7th, 8th, 
and 12th.



4 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in a marsh on Worthley Avenue in 
Seabrook on August 10th.



3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen along the coast on August 10th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen in the Exeter River in Brentwood on August 10th, and 
2 were seen at Lancy Brook in Brookline on the 13th.



60 GREAT EGRETS and 84 SNOWY EGRETS were tallied along the coast on August 
13th.



A RUDDY DUCK was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on August 
10th.



An immature GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on 
August 13th.



2 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on August 13th.



An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
August 13th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen Lyman on August 10th, and 1 was seen in 
Brookfield on the 14th.



A RED-NECKED GREBE has been seen all summer off the coast in Rye.



A WHIMBREL was seen in coastal Rye, and 4 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen 
in Hampton Marsh, all on August 14th.



3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were reported from Orford on August 14th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in coastal Rye on August 14th.



Birders should be aware of a possible GOLDEN EAGLE reported from Madison on 
August 9th.
