This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 4th, 2016.



Birders on a boat cruise out of Hampton on April 2nd reported seeing the 
following birds in New Hampshire waters: 3 COMMON MURRES, 2 THICK-BILLED 
MURRES, 31 RAZORBILLS, 6 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, 3 NORTHERN FULMARS, a LESSER 
BLACK-BACKED GULL, an ICELAND GULL, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and 6 NORTHERN 
GANNETS.



A pair of SANDHILL CRANES has returned to Monroe and was last reported on 
March 27th. The birds are most often seen in farm fields along Plains Road. 
If you look for the birds, please look from the road and do not enter the 
fields.



A BLACK VULTURE was seen in Bedford on March 28th, and another was seen in 
North Walpole on April 2nd.



A SNOWY OWL was seen in Sandwich on March 28th, but was not reported again.



An ICELAND GULL was reported from Rockingham Park in Salem on March 29th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Dummer on April 2nd.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen along with 58 COMMON GOLDENEYES at the 
dam on the Androscoggin River in Errol on April 3rd.



3 BRANT were seen flying off of Seabrook Beach on April 2nd.



A male NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen in Lancaster on April 3rd, and another was 
seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton on April 2nd.



A female NORTHERN SHOVELER, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, and 5 NORTHERN PINTAILS were 
seen in the Great Meadows area in Charlestown on April 2nd.



A male AMERICAN WIGEON was seen at the Magill Bay pullout at the Pontook 
Reservoir in Dummer on March 31st and April 1st.



85 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on Stone Pond in Marlow, and 40 were seen on 
Peverly Pond in Newington, all on April 2nd.



2 GLOSSY IBIS’S were seen at Chapman’s Landing in Stratham on March 30th and 
31st, 2 were reported from Greenland on March 30th, and 1 was seen in 
Kingston on April 3rd.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Pittsfield, and a SNOWY EGRET was seen at 
Chapman’s Landing in Stratham, both on April 2nd.



A PIPING PLOVER was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on March 30th, and 2 
were seen on April 3rd. 40 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at Hampton Beach 
State Park on April 2nd. A LESSER YELLOWLEGS was seen at the Exeter 
Wastewater Treatment Plant on April 4th.



7 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were reported from Rochester on April 4th, 2 were seen 
in Exeter on the 3rd, 1 was seen in Berlin on the 3rd, and several were seen 
in Hanover during the past week.



3 RED CROSSBILLS were seen in Chatham on April 3rd.



A COMMON REDPOLL was seen in Merrimack on April 3rd.



An EVENING GROSBEAK was reported from Lancaster on April 3rd.



4 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on March 30th.



4 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen in Keene on April 3rd.



A PURPLE MARTIN was reported from the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant, and 
3 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were seen at the Pickering Ponds in 
Rochester, all on April 2nd.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was heard in Brookline on April 2nd, and an EASTERN 
SCREECH-OWL was seen in Hollis on April 3rd.



Returning spring migrants reported during the past week included: PINE 
WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, SWAMP SPARROW, FIELD 
SPARROW, and VESPER SPARROW.



Raptors reported during the past week included: AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, 
PEREGRINE FALCON, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, 
OSPREY, and BALD EAGLE.
