Position: DataLad Programmer

Original full posting and application instructions can be found at

http://searchjobs.dartmouth.edu/postings/36530

DataLad project (http://datalad.org<http://datalad.org/>) is a collaborative USA/Germany

NSF/BMBF-funded project to establish data distribution for a variety of

datasets in neuroscience and beyond. We are looking for a full-time (part-time

might be considered) software developer to work on the project at Dartmouth

College among wonderful hills, lakes, and woods of New Hampshire away from the

craze of big cities.

As all our other projects (NeuroDebian, PyMVPA, etc), DataLad is

developed completely in the open, so this is an excellent opportunity for you

to make valuable and visible contribution to the ecosystem of scientific

software, and to get hands-on experience in the full cycle of open-source

development and deployment. We are collaborating with many other excellent

projects (OpenfMRI, HCP, CRCNS, NITRC, etc) in the scope of this effort, so it

is also an excellent opportunity to establish working collaborations with

leading projects in open neuroscience.

DataLad is developed in Python and heavily relies on distributed version

control systems such as git and git-annex, therefor an ideal candidate

- must demonstrate working knowledge of Python language and its ecosystem

- should be familiar with git and github. Knowledge of git-annex would

  also be a plus

- should have a degree in computer science or should be able to

demonstrate proficiency in programming and software engineering

- should have had experience in free and open source software development

(please provide your github/bitbucket pages in your application) and

should exhibit agility in the coding practice -- familiarity with unit-

and integration- testing, CI platforms etc

- should be familiar (at user or developer levels) with other

distribution systems (Linux distributions, Anaconda, etc)

- additional “experiences” which would be of benefit: JavaScript, HTML,

AWS, system administration (Debian and other Linux distributions and OSs,

  Ansible, networking, BTRFS)

Responsibilities will be assigned based on your prior experience and

interests. Initial term of employment is one year, with continuation depending

on performance and funds availability. Position will remain open until filled.

Competitive annual salary depending on experience. Dartmouth college provides

various benefits (health and life insurance, etc) in case of full-time

employment.
