A highlight today while birding in the Woodstock, VT, floodplain was a Dickcissel seen by several of us including Ed and Sandy Hack and Sara Eisenhower. Sandy and Sara obtained good photos of the bird.

The location was in the vicinity of a corner of hedge rows four utility poles across the farm fields out from the electric substation which is just off Route 4 at the east end of town. About 2 years ago, a Dickcissel was seen and photographed along the same hedge row under the utility poles.

Among other notable bird species in the floodplain area today were an immature Cooper’s Hawk, an adult Bald Eagle, a Red-tailed Hawk, American Pipits, Common Grackle, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Savannah Sparrows
