Dori:
While bluebirds are not common in winter in NH/VT, they are not unusual either. We've seen them from time to time in winter in our crabapple tree in Norwich, picking at the crabapples. Robins exhibit the same occasional over-wintering behavior. We've seen robins this winter, but haven't seen bluebirds in winter in several years. But then, we haven't seen bluebirds in the yard in the spring in a while, either.
It's always a cheerful and colorful sight to spot them in winter (although maybe not as cheerful for the bluebird).

Out our window on the sycamore tree next to the Connecticut River in North Hartland. Lovely to see -- but how unusual is it to have one in the Upper Valley in January?
