Hello,

After seeing no bats at all last year near our home in Arlington, Vermont (western part of Bennington Country), this evening we observed 5 bats in the same field of view at the same moment. We had been seeing two or three together earlier in the summer; this was the largest number seen at the same time in a number of years. They appear to be healthy and feeding on flying insects about 30 feet above the ground. Size (relative to birds that I recognize) is likely about 6 inches in length. I cannot estimate the wing span and do not know the species of bats to be able to ID them correctly. They do however, appear to vary in size. One in particular seems larger in body size (girth) than the others.

I hope that others are seeing more bats this year as well.
