This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, July 8th, 2014.



A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen on a fence at the Pease International Tradeport 
near Short Street in Newington on July 6th.



An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen at Foss Beach in Rye on July 4th.



A CORY'S SHEARWATER, 4 ROSEATE TERNS, 3 WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS, 2 LAUGHING 
GULLS, and 2 possible RAZORBILLS were seen off of the coast on July 4th.



A LEAST TERN was seen from Route 286 in Seabrook, and another was seen in 
Meadow Pond in Hampton, both on July 6th.



At least 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES are being seen regularly in Newmarket, where 
they have nested during the past several years. They were last reported on 
July 6th.



2 SANDHILL CRANES have returned to their summering grounds in Monroe and can 
sometimes be seen in fields along the Connecticut River as far as 9-miles 
north of the town center and also in fields along Plains Road. They were 
last reported on July 5th. If you look for these birds, please do not 
venture onto the farm fields, which are privately owned.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continues to sing from a perch near the intersection 
of Short Street and Aboretum Drive in Newington on July 6th.



A SPRUCE GROUSE, 3 BOREAL CHICKADEES, and 4 GRAY JAYS were reported from 
Pittsburg on July 3rd.



A BICKNELL’S THRUSH, a FOX SPARROW, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 4 GRAY JAYS, 
2 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 3 LINCOLN’S SPARROWS, 2 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, and 4 
MOURNING WARBLERS were reported from Pittsburg on July 4th through the 6th.



A BOREAL CHICKADEE nest was found in a large dead paper birch snag located 
on the northeast side of the Caps Ridge Trail parking lot off of Jefferson 
Notch Road in the White Mountains on June 28th. On July 1st, 2 adult BOREAL 
CHICKADEES were seen visiting the nest, and then 5 chicks were seen to 
fledge.



A pair of RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was reported from Loverns Mill Cedar Swamp in 
Antrim on July 6th.



A NELSON’S SPARROW was reported from the coast on July 4th.



9 PURPLE MARTINS were seen in coastal Seabrook on July 4th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from North Conway on July 6th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was reported from Swanzey on July 5th.



48 TURKEY VULTURES were seen roosting in trees behind a private residence in 
Nashua on July 6th.
