This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, April 30th,
2014.
A SNOWY OWL was seen in the dunes at Hampton Beach State Park on April 28th.
A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at a private residence in Newmarket on
April 28th and 29th.
An adult male ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen at Nubanusit Neighborhood and Farm in
Peterborough on April 28th.
A SNOW GOOSE continued to be seen at Sawyer’s Fields along Intervale Road in
Gilford during the past week and was last reported on April 24th. Also
present on the 24th was a pair of GADWALL.
20 RED-NECKED GREBES, 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen
on Great Bay on April 30th.
2 HORNED GREBES were seen at McDaniel’s Marsh in Haverhill, 2 were seen at
Mascoma Lake in Enfield, and 2 were seen along with 6 RED-NECKED GREBES on
the Connecticut River above the Wilder Dam, all on April 26th.
7 HORNED GREBES, and 2 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen on the Connecticut River
at the Kilowatt South site on the Connecticut River on April 30th.
11 RED-NECKED GREBES, 6 HORNED GREBES, 6 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 8 COMMON
GOLDENEYE, a LESSER SCAUP, over 100 BUFFLEHEADS, 16 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and at least 41 BONAPARTE’S GULLS were seen on Great Bay
on April 27th.
A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen at Great Bay in Newmarket on April
28th.
3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 8 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and 2
WILSON'S SNIPE were seen in farm fields in East Kingston on April 27th.
A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a WILSON’S SNIPE, 3 BANK SWALLOWS, and a FISH
CROW were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on April 27th,
27 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on April
27th.
A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen at Great Pond in Kingston on April 28th.
3 GREAT EGRETS and a GREEN HERON were seen at Mill Pond in Durham, and a
VIRGINIA RAIL was reported from Colby Marsh on Longmarsh Road in Durham, all
on April 26th.
A WILLET and a LAUGHING GULL were seen along the coast on April 30th.
A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was seen at Dodge Pond in Lyman on April 27th.
A SPOTTED SANDPIPER, a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, a GRAY CATBIRD, a BANK
SWALLOW, and a CLIFF SWALLOW were all reported from near the Connecticut
River in Hinsdale on April 26th, and a MARSH WREN was seen here on the 28th.
A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was reported from Richmond on April 26th and
29th.
2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Riddles Marsh in Hebron on April 27th.
An estimated 100 CHIMNEY SWIFTS were seen at Field’s Grove in Nashua, and a
single CHIMNEY SWIFT was seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord, all on April
30th.
BANK SWALLOWS, BARN SWALLOWS, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, and TREE
SWALLOWS were reported during the past week.
Early-spring songbird reports during the past week included: EASTERN
PHOEBES, PALM, PINE,, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLERS, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, HERMIT THRUSHES,
EASTERN TOWHEES, BROWN THRASHERS, EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, KILLDEER, WILSON’S
SNIPE, FIELD SPARROWS, and SAVANNAH SPARROWS..
A flock of more than 75 CEDAR WAXWINGS was seen in Nashua on April 27th.
