On Sunday April 27, 2014, Windsor County 2014 Birding Quest will hold
a bird walk, led by Ed Hack, Kyle Kittelberger, and George Clark,
starting at 7:00 AM at Lake Runnemede in Windsor, VT, and, depending
on available time, possibly continuing, for those who wish, to another
location in that town with an ending time around 10:30 AM. Road
instructions are below. This bird walk is free and open to the public.
Bring binoculars and scopes if available. Participants should be able
to walk a mile over fairly level, sometimes uneven and possibly damp,
terrain. We'll be looking especially for migrant waterbirds and
landbirds. In the unfortunate case of steady, heavy, rain this event
will be cancelled.
Road instructions: From Exit 9 off I-91, turn south on Route 5 towards
Windsor. After going about 3 miles southward on Route 5, look for the
Back Forty guns and ammo store on the left, with Price Chopper
supermarket just beyond, also on the left. This walk will begin at
7:00 AM by the entrance to a long driveway directly across Route 5
from the Back Forty store. Please do not drive into that driveway,
vehicular use of which is reserved for local residents. Parking is
available along Route 5, but be sure your site is legal.
Carpoolers from towns around the Hanover/Norwich area are to leave
from the River Road commuter parking lot in Norwich by the Ledyard
Bridge at 6:30 AM that morning. Vehicles are scheduled to return to
the Norwich commuter lot by 11:00 AM.
