I am looking for people to participate in a project to translate 60 interviews with Indonesian composers from various areas of Sumatra, Java, and Bali. The interviews were transcribed by the Javanese dhalang Pak Tristuti (alm.), transcriptions were checked against the cassette recordings by my research partner, composer and arts activist I Wayan Sadra (alm.), and a copy was sent to each composer for further corrections.

There is a substantial NEH grant for translations and scholarly editions, due in December. Part of the application require examples of the translations, and CVs for a "team" of a minimum of three people: a translator, an editor, and a project director. I am working on identifying the members of that team now.

The intended final result will be well-written and edited editions in both English and indonesian, and various forms of publication and distribution internationally.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please forward this announcement, or convey my contact information. Upon request, I can send, or post on a website, examples of the source interviews, and work based on their content.

Other elements of this project include transferring and annotating photographs, video and audio recordings, and scores. I will be looking for people with skills in these areas, although these materials will initially be considered supplements to the interviews.

Many of the composers in this project have passed away recently, creating a moral as well as a professional imperative to finish what has become a life's work.

I appreciate your time in reading this, and also any forthcoming suggestions members of this list

dengan segala hormat
