From 10:00 AM to Noon on Saturday February 15, 2014, an Eagle Watch
is to be held on the Vermont side of the Wilder Dam in Wilder, VT.
This event, arranged by the Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon,
is free and open to the public. Leaders are Blake Allison and George
Clark. Participants can come at any time during the two hours and stay
as long as they wish. We'll be looking for Bald Eagles and other
birds. Dress warmly. Bring binoculars and scopes if available.
Observations are to be made from the vicinity of the parking lot just
west of Wilder Dam so walking will be minimal. (In the unanticipated
cases of continuous heavy precipitation, or hazardous driving
conditions, or dense fog, this event is to be rescheduled until 10 AM
to Noon on the following day, Sunday February 16.)
Road instructions: From Exit 12 off I-9l in Wilder, within the Town of
Hartford, VT, turn east on Bugbee Street. Go east on Bugbee Street to
Route 5, and turn left, going northward on Route 5. Then take the 4th
right turn onto Depot Street, then bearing left on Norwich Avenue,
then a quick right over the bridge over the railway to reach
Passumpsic Avenue. There turn right and continue, passing two parking
lots on the right, to the end of the road where there is a parking
area west of Wilder Dam. Depending on the extent of snow plowing,
parking might be limited in the parking lot at the end of the road but
should be available in the other two nearby lots along Passumpsic
Avenue.
