This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, December
11th, 2013.
SNOWY OWLS continued to be reported in New Hampshire during the past week
including 1 at the Kollsman Sports Fields Complex in Merrimack on December
11th, 1 near Fort Stark in New Castle on the 11th, 1 in Greenland on the
8th, 1 at Ragged Neck in Rye on the 8th, 1 at Sam’s Club in Manchester on
the 8th, one in fields along Ten Rod Road in New Durham on the 7th, 7 in Rye
on the 6th, 1 in Hampton on the 6th, and 1 near the mouth of the Lamprey
River in Newmarket on the 5th.
A TOWNSEND’S WARBLER was seen along the shoreline north of the Seacoast
Science Center at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on December 8th, 9th,
10th, and 11th. It was seen foraging in junipers, bittersweet, and in the
wrack line on the beach.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen among HOUSE SPARROWS on School Street in
Allenstown on December 8th.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was reported from Westmoreland on December 10th.
An ICELAND GULL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on December 11th.
2 BARROW’S GOLDENEYES were seen in the Merrimack River in Manchester near
250 Commercial Street on December 5th.
A female NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in South Mill Pond in Portsmouth on
December 8th.
2 BLACK SCOTERS were seen on the Connecticut River near Hanover on December
10th.
A GREAT EGRET was seen along the coast in North Hampton on December 8th.
A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in Hampton Harbor on December 8th.
2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen in Pittsfield on December 11th.
A late-migrating BROWN THRASHER was seen in Berlin on December 8th.
