This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 26th,
2013.
2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen again at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment
Plant on August 21st, and 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 16 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and a
SANDERLING (uncommon inland) were seen here on the 23rd. The treatment plant
is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit,
please check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant
personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and
do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the
plant, are not gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen at World End Pond in Salem on August 25th.
A LEAST TERN, and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen in Hampton Harbor,
and a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen in Hampton Marsh, all on August 24th.
6 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on
August 21st.
A FISH CROW and a GREAT EGRET were reported from Rockingham Park, and a FISH
CROW was reported from World End Pond, all in Salem on August 22nd.
30 GREAT EGRETS and 15 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in the marsh north of Route
286 in Seabrook on August 24th.
An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen in Canterbury on August 25th, a CAPE MAY
WARBLER was seen in Pittsfield on the 23rd, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was seen
in Rumney on the 25th, a TENNESSEE WARBLER was seen in Grafton County on the
23rd, and a TENNESSEE WARBLER was seen in Pittsfield on the 21st.
2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were reported from Ashland on August 26th.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Nashua on August 22nd, 1 was seen in Concord
on the 24th, and 1 was seen in Hampton on the 25th.
A few BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS and a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO were reported during
the past week.
COMMON NIGHTHAWK migration appears to have peaked last weekend with high
counts of 2,202 tallied at Powdermill Pond in Hancock on August 24th, 966
recorded in Concord on the 25th, and 737 counted in Henniker on the 25th.
There were smaller numbers, including counts of up to 300 birds, reported
from scattered locations during the past week.
