This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, May 14th, 2013.
A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER has been coming to a birdfeeder on Grafton Road in
Alexandria since December 13th, and was last reported on May 13th.
3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying in West Andover on May 12th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Rockingham Park parking lot in
Salem on May 7th.
A BLACK TERN, a SORA, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 5 LEAST SANDPIPERS were all
reported from the Pondicherry National Wildlife in Jefferson and Whitefield
on May 11th.
A BLACK TERN, a THICK-BILLED MURRE, 4 GREAT EGRETS, 14 SNOWY EGRETS, 9
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 31 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 2 PIPING PLOVERS, 22 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 16 WILLETS, 235 SANDERLINGS, 44 LEAST SANDPIPERS, a WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, 16 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 164 DUNLINS, 32 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 7
ROSEATE TERNS, and 402 COMMON TERNS were all reported from the coast on May
11th, and 2 LEAST TERNS were seen on the coast on the 12th.
A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and a VESPER SPARROW were seen at the Concord Airport
on May 11th.
A SNOW GOOSE was seen on Hedgehog Pond in Salem on May 13th.
An adult-plumaged LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen on the Connecticut River in
Hinsdale on May 12th.
A flock of 17 GLOSSY IBIS was seen flying over the Little River salt marsh
in Hampton on May 11th, and a GREAT EGRET was seen in Exeter on May 10th.
4 LEAST SANDPIPERS, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER were
seen in a pond next to the Steeplegate Mall in Concord on May 11th.
A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was reported from Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on
May 11th, and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS was seen in Rochester on May 10th.
4 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen from Short Road in Newington at the Pease
International Tradeport on May 13th.
A pair of GADWALL was seen from the Trails at Pickering Ponds in Rochester
on May 12th and 14th.
A HORNED GREBE was seen on Newfound Lake on May 7th.
An EVENING GROSBEAK was seen in Roxbury on May 12th.
A pair of BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS continues to be seen along the forest
road at the Trudeau Road wetlands in Bethlehem, and was last reported on May
10th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen near Little Cherry Pond in Jefferson on
May 8th and 11th, and 1 was seen near Mud Pond on the 11th.
12 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in Canterbury and 7 were seen in Concord, all
during the past week.
Several WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and LINCOLN’S SPARROWS were seen during the
past week.
There were several reports of ORCHARD ORIOLES during the past week.
There were several reports of PINE SISKINS during the past week including 18
in Roxbury on May 10th, and 14 in Newmarket on the 12th.
Over 100 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen near the Wilder Dam on the
Connecticut River in Hanover on May 9th.
24 different species of warblers were reported during the past week
including an unconfirmed report of a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER in Hooksett, a
CAPE MAY WARBLER in Hanover, a CANADA WARBLER in Keene, and several
TENNESSEE WARBLERS and BLACKPOLL WARBLERS.
VIREO species reported during the past week included RED-EYED, WARBLING,
YELLOW-THROATED, and BLUE-HEADED.
A PURPLE MARTIN was reported from Hinsdale on May 11th. Other SWALLOW
species reported during the past week included CLIFF, BANK, BARN, TREE, and
NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED, and CHIMNEY SWIFTS have returned to many sites.
