During a bike ride this afternoon, I stopped on a whim at Post Pond in Lyme, looking for loons (there was one there when I pedaled past the pond several days ago). I didn't see any loons, but a bittern vocalized from the cattails adjacent to the pond. I also saw a Pileated Woodpecker that flew directly overhead as I rode back along the Lyme Road, and heard my first Black-and-white Warbler of the year.
