I've changed the script which tunes Mac clients, principally to turn on
'crypt' mode by default. This setting encrypts file transfer traffic on
the network (authentication traffic is always encrypted anyway). Crypt
mode is on by default in the Windows client, but off by default for the
Mac.
The new script is at:
http://caligari.dartmouth.edu/downloads/openafs/afssetup.zip
The Zip file unpacks to 4 clickable scripts:
afssetup: sets up client tunable parameters, and enables crypt mode
then restarts the client
afslink: creates desktop shortcuts to your AFS home folder
startafs: start up or restart the client manually
stopafs: stop the client manually
The start/stop buttons in the OpenAFS control panel do not seem to always
work. It is rarely needed to manually start or stop the client, but these
scripts seem to work reliably.
