This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 26th, 
2011.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen at the UNH Dairy Barn in Durham, and 
25 BRANT were seen migrating along the coast, all on October 22nd. 20 BRANT 
were seen from Seabrook Beach on the 26th.



2 DICKCISSELS were seen in fields along River Road in Stratham on October 
21st, one was reported from near Ron's Landing Restaurant in Hampton on the 
21st, one was reported from Hudson Farm in Hinsdale on the 21st, and one was 
seen at Greeley Park in Nashua on the 23rd.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen along the railroad bed located off of Depot 
Road in Hampton Falls on October 26th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
October 22nd.



A SEASIDE SPARROW was seen along the edge of the marsh just to the south of 
the parking lot at Beckman's Island in Seabrook on October 26th.



A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Rye Harbor State Park on October 23rd, and 
one was seen at Hudson Farm in Hinsdale on the 21st.



There were sightings of 2 GOLDEN EAGLES from Little Round Top in Bristol, 
and 2 from Balch Hill in Hanover during the past week.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in East Conway next to Sherman Farms on October 
24th, and another possible one was seen in Loudon on the 22nd.



A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was reported from the coast on October 22nd, and 3 
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen off of Island Path in Hampton on October 26th.



5 FORSTER'S TERNS and 5 COMMON TERNS were seen on the south jetty of Hampton 
harbor inlet on October 26th.



60 SURF SCOTERS, 30 BLACK SCOTERS, 20 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 2 LONG-TAILED 
DUCKS, a NORTHERN SHOVELER, 21 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 13 COMMON MERGANSERS, 9 
BUFFLEHEADS, 8 MALLARDS, a COMMON GOLDENEYE, and 11 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS 
were seen on October 20th, and 12 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen on the 19th, 
all on Cherry Pond in the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson.



16 BLACK SCOTERS were seen on the Androscoggin River in Gorham on October 
20th, and 22 were seen on the Connecticut River near Hanover on the 23rd.



41 AMERICAN COOTS and 2 PIED-BILLED GREBES were seen on Eel Pond in Rye on 
October 20th.



2 HORNED GREBES, and an AMERICAN COOT were seen on Lake Massabesic in Auburn 
on October 24th.



A RUDDY DUCK, 7 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 9 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 18 AMERICAN COOTS, 
and 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant 
on October 23rd.



2 SURF SCOTERS, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, and a RED-NECKED GREBE were seen on Spofford 
Lake in Chesterfield on October 21st.



There were several reports of LAUGHING GULLS along the coast during the past 
week.



40 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 3 SNOWY EGRETS were seen on South Mill Pond in 
Portsmouth on October 20th.



Over 200 NORTHERN GANNETS were seen off of Hampton Beach State Park on 
October 20th.



A NASHVILLE WARBLER was seen in the fields behind the Post Office on Loudon 
Road in Concord on October 24th, and one was seen on River Road in Walpole 
along with 3 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS on the 21st.



A WILLOW FLYCATCHER was reported from Star Island, one of the Isles of 
Shoals, on October 22nd.



12 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 2 HERMIT THRUSHES, and a PALM WARBLER were reported 
from Pittsfield on October 24th, and a WARBLING VIREO and a MARSH WREN were 
seen in Pittsfield on October 26th.



 A CHIMNEY SWIFT and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK were reported from the coast on 
October 22nd.



There were several sightings of PINE SISKINS during the past week.



Nearly 14,000 raptors have been reported from the Pack Monadnock Raptor 
Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and nearly 10,000 have been reported 
from the Carter Hill Raptor Observatory in Concord, all since September 1st. 
Species reported include GOLDEN EAGLE (6 from Pack Monadnock, and 1 from 
Carter Hill so far this season), BALD EAGLE, OSPREY, NORTHERN HARRIER, 
AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, PEREGRINE FALCON, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, COOPER'S 
HAWK, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and 
RED-TAILED HAWK. Be sure to visit these observatories this fall season to 
help out with the count!
