A few highlights:
At the Houghton Hill Wetlands today(July2)
3 Red-shouldered hawks! - got photos
2 Hermit Thrush
1 kingfisher
1 Common Yellowthroat
1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
1 Song Sparrow
3 Cedar Waxwings
Doings at home on Tigertown Rd in the last few weeks.
Fledged and being fed by worn out adults:
Hairy Woodpeckers
Downy Woodpecker
Evening Grosbeaks (2 kids)
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks
Red-breasted nuthatch-brief glimpse juvi
On the sad side:
1 dead chickadee nestling in nest box
1 dead Rose-breasted Grosbeak- probably adult female- cause unknown
Noisy:
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker nestlings in nearby poplar tree. Incessant!
Singing:
Veery
Hermit Thrush
Scarlet Tanager
Juncos
Ovenbirds
Wood thrush
both kinds Grosbeaks
Purple Finch
Chickadee
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Red-eyed Vireo
Other Regulars:
Blue Jays
White-breasted Nuthatch
Barred Owls (very noisy in late May,early June)
pair Goldfinches
Ruby Throated Hummers-2-3
Mourning Doves
Very Unusual (for here)
2 male Red-wings have started devouring suet at feeder. Never had them here
before. Not much wetland nearby. We are in a very wooded area
At the Beaver Pond, Tigertown Rd.
Hardly any ducks this past month- 1-2 female Hoodies
no Great Blue
no Kingfisher
Where is everybody?
Earlie had a mallard family, and 3 pairs of Hoodies 2 pairs Wood Ducks this
spring
Predation?
I hope not.
